Privacy Policy
Applies to Strafe Client (the in-game mod) and Strafe Launcher. Last updated 9 October 2026.
Strafe is made by creeperdiamonds Studios, an independent developer (not a registered company). We built it to collect as little as possible: we run no analytics, no ads and no tracking, and we have no servers that receive your data. This page lists everything the software does with your information.
Your Microsoft / Minecraft account
When you sign in with Microsoft, the launcher talks directly to Microsoft, Xbox Live and Mojang to get a Minecraft login token, exactly like the official launcher. The token, your username and your Minecraft UUID are stored only on your computer, encrypted with your operating system's secure storage. They are never sent to us. You can remove an account in the launcher at any time, which deletes it from your computer.
Files the launcher downloads
To install and update the game, the launcher downloads files from:
- Mojang (piston-meta.mojang.com, piston-data.mojang.com, resources.download.minecraft.net): the game, libraries and assets
- FabricMC (meta.fabricmc.net, maven.fabricmc.net): the Fabric mod loader
- Modrinth (api.modrinth.com, cdn.modrinth.com): Fabric API and performance mods
- Eclipse Adoptium (api.adoptium.net, github.com): Java, only if your computer doesn't have the right version
- mc-heads.net: your skin's face, shown next to your name
These services see your IP address like any website you visit; their own privacy policies apply.
Servers you join
The launcher shows a live player count for servers in your list by sending them a standard Minecraft status request, the same thing the in-game multiplayer screen does.
When you join a server that supports it (for example one running the Basalt anticheat), the client sends that server the list of mods you have installed: each mod's ID, version and a fingerprint (SHA-1 hash) of its file. The server uses this to check that the mods are unmodified copies from Modrinth, and may switch off some client features or refuse custom mods. Servers that don't support this receive nothing. This list does not contain any personal information or files, only mod names and fingerprints.
Data stored on your computer
Settings, your HUD layout, accounts (encrypted), and the game itself are stored in the launcher's folder
(.strafe in your application data folder) and in the game's config folder.
Uninstalling and deleting that folder removes everything.
Children
We don't collect personal information from anyone, including children. Minecraft accounts for children are managed through Microsoft family settings, which the launcher respects.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Questions: contact@strafeclient.com.
